| HANS ROSLING (INNOTOWN 2008) |
|
| | IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORLD LOOKS LIKE, THINK AGAIN! . Hans Rosling Director of Gapminder Foundation and Professor of International Health Karolinska Institutet Sweden
Professor Hans Rosling´s award-winning lecture on world development has been labeled ”humorous, yet deadly serious”. You have never seen data on global health, poverty, economic trends, social and environmental change presented like this. Guaranteed. We predict that many in the audience may find that their world view is some decades too old.
With son and daughter-in-law he founded the nonprofit Gapminder Foundation to promote a fact based world view by developing the breakthrough software that converts international statistics into moving, interactive and enjoyable graphics. In 2007 Google acquired the software Trendalyzer that he uses in his InnoTown 08 presentation to show the trends of economic, social and environmental change that take place in the world. Statistics boring? Never when Hans Rosling is the presenter!
Hans Rosling is professor of International Health at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. When working as a doctor in Mozambique he discovered a formerly unrecognized paralytic disease (konzo). His research concerns links between economy and health in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He has been adviser to WHO and UNICEF, and he co-founded Médecines sans Frontiers in Sweden. He started courses and published a textbook on Global Health. . Next Speaker |

| Some take away ideas from Hans´s presentation: |
. • there are no longer two types of countries (industrialized and developing) in the world
• most Asian countries are modernizing twice as fast as Europe did
• the main reason for optimism regarding the future is that the world is so badly managed at present (i.e. there are endless opportunities to improve the world) |
